Overview

See the aftermath of Iceland’s most recent eruption in Geldingadalur Valley. Travel only with your favourite people to a hauntingly beautiful lava field on the Reykjanes Peninsula.

Iceland is one of the most volcanically active countries in the world with over 32 active volcanic systems. The eruption of Fagradalsfjall Volcano in Geldingadalur Valley began on 19th of March 2021, following three weeks of earthquakes in the region.

On this privately guided tour, you’ll visit the site of Fagradalsfjalla Volcano, and learn all about the eruption, its precursor and aftermath. The only people on this tour are the ones you are already travelling with, which allows you to remain safe and have your guide’s full attention throughout the excursion.

You can choose to be picked up in Reykjavík or meet your guide in the town of Grindavík, located on the Reykjanes Peninsula. The guide will then lead you through the rough and rocky terrain of Geldingadalur Valley. The hike can take around 1 and ½ hours one way, so make sure you’ll bring proper hiking boots. Your guide will have crampons to lend you if the path is icy.

Once at the eruption site, your guide will lead you around and show you the dormant volcano and the new lava field. You’ll spend some time walking around the area, seeing the destruction the lava flow created during the volcano’s 6 month-long eruption.

The guide will show you different vantage points, so you can take epic pictures to share with your friends and family back home. You will stay at the for 2 hours if the weather allows, giving you plenty of time to fully enjoy this spectacular natural wonder.
