Overview

Step into a newly discovered ice cave in Langjökull Glacier in the Western Highlands of Iceland. This is the first natural ice cave found in this glacier, making a trip inside this sparkly cavern a genuinely exclusive experience only shared by a select few.

Langjökull is the closest glacier to Reykjavík, Iceland’s capital city, so this is the perfect tour for those with little time looking for an authentic ice caving experience. In addition, the departure point for this tour is a short drive from Gullfoss Waterfall, making the excursion a fantastic addition for anyone travelling the famous Golden Circle.

Your guide will pick you up in a comfortable 4×4 truck at the departure point. You’ll travel across the barren Highlands to the base of the glacier, where you’ll switch vehicles, leaving the SUV behind for an 8×8 wheel monster truck that will take you up the glacier.

Once on top of the glacier, you’ll put on crampons and a helmet. Then you’ll follow your guide into the sparkling cave. The ceiling inside the cavern resembles a brilliant blue ice river with pearly white banks. Take note of the cave walls; they are streaked with black lines at points. These are layers of ash created over centuries after volcanic eruptions from nearby volcanoes.

The cave is massive, and the ice is translucent, resembling blue crystals. That is why some people have started to call this cave ‘The Amazing Crystal Ice Cave’. You’ll spend around 40-50 minutes inside this beautiful natural wonder, giving you plenty of time to explore and take photographs.

Don’t miss out on this once in a lifetime adventure! Be one of the few people who get to visit the newly discovered ice cave in Langjökull Glacier. Book not to secure your spot on this popular tour.
