Overview

Discover the mountains, fjords and waterfalls of Iceland’s Snæfellsnes Peninsula, a region known for its staggering scenery, magical folklore and eclectic natural attractions. This is the perfect excursion for adventure-lovers looking for surprise sights when travelling around one of the country’s most beautiful areas.

After being picked up in a comfortable minibus, you will head northwest towards the enchanting Snæfellsnes, a peninsula named after the mighty Snæfellsjökull glacier that towers over the area. Aside from the attractions listed, your guide will strive to show you several secret spots en route.

You will pass by sweeping volcanic fields and sable coastlines on the journey to your first official stop, the Gerðuberg cliffs. These hexagonal formations reach up in a solid wall, 14 metres tall, and they are considered by some to be the gateway to Snæfellsnes. Afterwards, you will pay a visit to Berserkjahraun lava field where your guide will show you a hidden waterfall.

Your next stop is at the famous Kirkjufell mountain, best known as the ‘Mountain like the Arrowhead’ from HBO’s fantasy series, Game of Thrones. After appreciating the captivating scenery, you will have a lunch break at the delicious Hraun Veitingahús restaurant in the charming Ólafsvík village. Make sure to eat up; you have a big afternoon ahead of you.

The 3000-year-old Saxhóll crater is next on the agenda, providing some insight into Iceland’s volcanic underbelly. At 100 metres tall with a winding staircase allowing access to the top, Saxhóll offers incredible views of the surrounding peninsula, from the blue waves of the ocean to the icy peaks of Snæfellsjökull.

Then it is off to Djúpalónssandur, a beautiful black pebble beach. To get to the beach, you must first walk through a natural maze of lava formations. From there, you’ll head to the little hamlet of Arnarstapi for some fantastic views of the ocean.

Before heading back to the capital, you will make a stop at Ytri-Tunga beach where guests can watch playful seal colonies basking in their natural habitat.

Book now to secure your spot on this fantastic day tour, and explore the diverse natural attractions that have made the Snæfellsnes Peninsula famous.
