Overview

Drive across black sand beaches, glacial streams, and rugged hills to the DC3 Plane Crash on this thrilling Quad Bike Tour in South Iceland. With easy to drive quad bikes and professional guidance, you will undoubtedly have an amazing time on this tour, whether you are entirely new to ATVs or a seasoned driver.

You will meet your guide at the tour base near Mýrdalsjökull Glacier on Iceland’s south coast. Here, your guide will show you how to operate the vehicle. The quad bike is a small ATV, perfect for going off the beaten path. Although driving the quad bike is pretty easy, Icelandic law dictates that you need to hold a valid driving license to operate it.

The guide will give you a helmet, gloves, and warm coveralls to wear over your clothes. The coveralls are waterproof, which will come in handy later on when driving across glacial streams. This is a fantastic tour to do both in winter and summer; you’ll get frozen rivers in the winter and green fields in the summer.

From the base, you will travel with the guide down to black sands created in a volcanic eruption hundreds of years ago. Here, you will stop to enjoy the view of the glacier Mýrdalsjökull if the weather allows. Your guide will tell you about the region; how the volcano that lies dormant under the glacier changed what was once verdant farmlands into a black desert.

You’ll continue on to the southernmost part of Iceland, the Dyrhólaey Peninsula. Here, you’ll see the strangely shaped rock arch and the beautiful, white lighthouse that was built in 1927. From there, you’ll follow the coast to the famous DC3 Plane Wreck.

In 1973, a U.S Navy DC3 plane ran out of fuel after delivering supplies for a radio station in East Iceland. It had to make an emergency landing on the Sólheimasandur Desert. Luckily, no one was hurt in the crash, but the unsalvaged wreckage still remains on the beach, serving now as a photography spot.

After getting some great shots of yourself in front of the plane, you’ll hop back on the quad and follow the river Jökulsá up the foot of a mountain. Your guide will lead you up and down hills until you reach the ATV base again.

Discover Iceland’s amazing scenery in a fun and unique way with this Quad Bike Tour to the DC3 Plane Wreck. Book now to secure your spot on this truly great tour.
