Overview

Spectacular natural scenery, excellent guides, and off-the-beaten-track adventures make Þórsmörk Valley Full-Day Hiking Tour a worthwhile addition to your trip to Iceland. You’ll travel into the wild Icelandic Highlands to spend a day hiking in Þórsmörk, a valley known for its fantastic views and mild weather. Get to know Iceland’s untouched wilderness on this amazing hiking tour.

Hvolsvöllur is a small town on Iceland’s south coast, close to the waterfalls Seljalandsfoss and Skógafoss. Here, you’ll also meet your guide for today’s hiking adventure. You can also request a pick up in either Hvolsvöllur or the nearby village of Hella.

You’ll board the guide’s large vehicle and head off into the wilderness. The Highlands of Iceland are a vast, mostly uninhabited area made up of volcanoes, lava fields, black sand deserts, jagged mountains, and glaciers. However, amidst these rough natural features lies an oasis; Þórsmörk Valley.

The valley is nestled between the glaciers Mýrdalsjökull, Tindfjallajökull and Eyjafjallajökull. This leads to a warmer climate than you usually find in south Iceland and the Highlands. Winding between the mountains and through the valley is the river Krossá which feeds the valley’s rich flora.

You will spend the day here, hiking to some of Iceland’s most beautiful but least visited natural attractions. Your guide will show you their favourite places throughout your journey and tell you about the area’s rich history. You’ll stop at the glaciers Gígjökull and Eyjafjallajökull, the latter was responsible for a significant eruption over 10 years ago, which caused floods in the valley.

The hike itself is around 8-10 km (5-6 mi) and usually takes about 3-4 hours. The path will take you up and down hills and mountains and is uneven at times. So make sure you bring good hiking shoes and wind and waterproof clothing so you can enjoy this day to the fullest.

Surround yourself with spectacular scenery in the wild Icelandic Highlands this summer. Book now to secure your spot on this fantastic hiking tour.
