Overview

Seeing lava flow out of an active volcano and being inches close to the boiling magma is genuinely a once in a lifetime experience. On this small-group tour, you’ll travel to the active volcano on the Reykjanes Peninsula to witness this breathtaking natural wonder. You don’t want to miss this fantastic adventure on your trip to the land of fire and ice.

On this small-group tour, you’ll be picked up in Reykjavík by a friendly and knowledgeable guide. Onboard the comfortable minibus is free Wifi, which means that you can upload any photos you take during your trip straight onto social media. In addition, your guide will play some Icelandic music on board to teach you a little about our rich culture.

You’ll travel through the town of Hafnarfjörður to Reykjanes Peninsula. En route, you’ll drive through old lava fields from past eruptions, now covered in moss. The minibus will stop at a parking lot, and then the hike to the active volcano will begin.

You’ll travel across uneven terrain and go up hills. The hike itself takes about one and a half hours one way, which means that this hike can be a little challenging for inexperienced hikers. However, it is all worth it once you see the vast field of dried magma the volcano has created in just a few months.

The sight is unbelievable. You’ll see the red, hot, glowing magma devour the ground underneath. You’ll spend some time here, viewing the volcano from a few angles and taking plenty of pictures. Your guide will find an excellent spot to stop and enjoy both the view and some Icelandic chocolate called Hraun, which, fittingly, means “lava”. You are also free to bring a packed lunch to eat at the hottest place in Iceland right now.

Don’t let this amazing opportunity pass you by. See the active volcano in Geldingadalur valley on this fantastic small-group adventure. So hurry up and book now to secure your spot on this popular tour!
